: Associate Underwriter
Associate Underwriter is a staff trainee position working closely with other members of the underwriting department to become technically competent with underwriting operations, policies and procedures. This position is involved in reviewing, appraising and recommending applications for insurance for acceptance, setting conditions for or to denying coverage. It is also involved in handling questions from brokers received via telephone and email. Upon successful and satisfactory completion of training, the Associate Underwriter will be eligible for an underwriting position.
Under the direction and supervision of Department Head and assigned Team members:
Learns to evaluate the experience of a risk against the class of business under review.
Learns to evaluate loss potential due to catastrophe, severity and/or frequency.
Learns to rate policies or reviews previously rated policies for proper rating.
Learns to utilize knowledge of automated systems to develop information for new or renewal policies.
Learns to prepare quotations for agent and helps underwriter answer questions from agents, policyholder or prospects.
Learns to assists agents with comments or questions about applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the company.
Learns to review and processes requests for cancellation, endorsement, etc.
Learns to review policies for renewal consideration.
Independent Learner and Self-Starter
Efficient in MS Office Products including Outlook, XCEL and Word.
Effective oral and written skills
Must have exceptional interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy
