This Industrial Insurance Underwriter 5 manages and is responsible for supervision of a team of industrial insurance underwriters, ensuring their staff have the knowledge, resources, and guidance needed to properly and fairly administer RCWs, WACs and policies within the program. Through your leadership and staff supervision, you will help account managers and administrative staff by streamlining workflows, promoting standard work, encouraging Lean projects to improve operations, and making sure workloads are distributed evenly; AND, you'll work for a boss who is interested in your achievement and career, who likes to mentor, help solve problems, and ensure you have the resources and support to perform your job effectively.
In the first six months you will:
Hire and build a cohesive, high performing, smooth running team; proactively managing key personnel issues (strengths/needs for team).
Work with staff on improvement/modifications to workflow to achieve program performance measures.
Lead your team in creating and sustaining a Customer Centered team and work environment.
Some of what you'll do:
Supervise, hire, train, coach, and mentor staff of up to 12.
Plan, prioritize, assign and evaluate work, ensure that work performed is consistent with current RCWs, WACs, and department policies and procedures.
Evaluate employee performance, prepare performance appraisals and assess training needs.
Analyze data, manage workloads, evaluate procedures and continue to build and improve the customer experience.
Resolve complaints and concerns about process, decisions, actions, personnel issues, and customer account issues.
Lead direct reports in education and outreach of agency resources available to employers.
Plan, lead, organize and motivate staff to achieve goals through Lean process improvement.
Review performance metrics, identify problems, trends and implement process and quality improvements.
Plan and ensure the business of the agency is conducted in an appropriate, efficient, professional, and cost effective manner.

A bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional experience in insurance related work, insurance benefits, research or statistical analysis, management analysis, auditing or related experience within L&l. (Experience leading, inspiring and supervising staff involved in tax related work, insurance benefits, fiscal work or related experience will substitute, year for year, for required education);
Two years of experience as an Industrial Insurance Underwriter 3 or Field Auditor 3.

Supervisory or team lead skills, individuals who can take charge, while understanding their role is to continually coach, teach and mentor staff into effective problem solvers.
Knowledge of industrial insurance laws, regulations, policies and procedures regarding risk classification and jurisdictional issues.
A leader who can build a high performing team, able to collaborate with and support co-workers.
Ability to problem solve; bring people together to find solutions to difficult complex problems, make good decisions, and implement solutions.
Build and maintain relationships within and outside the program to achieve results.
Strong written and verbal communicator with the proven ability to communicate complex issues at all levels of the organization.
Knowledge of the Lean principles and experience in leading a Lean project/effort or process improvement initiatives a plus.
