The Role

As an Absence Claims Examiner, you will be responsible for the analysis and management of assigned more complex absence claims. You will review, investigate, and make claim determinations regarding coverage, compensability, and appropriateness of claims. You will perform and deliver on routine assignments/projects while simultaneously leveraging and applying knowledge of his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. You will be responsible for the analysis and management of assigned claims.

Functional Responsibilities

Consultation and Analysis

Analyzes and processes claims by investigating, gathering and obtaining information to make claim determinations.

Conducts interviews with external stakeholders (e.g. physicians, claimants, and/or lawyers) on standard claims.

Makes FML claim determinations.

Negotiates settlement of FML claims up to designated authority level and makes claims payments.

Analyzes claimants coverage contracts to determine payment eligibility is met.

Technical consulting on compliance issues and adherence to procedures and process improvements.

Communication

Negotiates settlement of claims up to designated authority level and makes claims payments.

Analyzes claimants coverage contracts to determine payment eligibility is met.

Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding claim eligibility determinations to management.

Collaborates with appropriate internal stakeholders to determine claim eligibility.

Requirements

Education

4 Year/Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience (4 yrs of experience in lieu of Bachelors)

Experience

1 – 3 yrs of experience in insurance claims that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position

1 – 3 yrs of absence management claims experience including familiarity with US Federal and State Leave of Absence Laws

Ability to read, analyze and interpret Short Term Disability documents required

Completion of FML certification course required

Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology

A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations

Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions

Drives performance targets to completion
